Posted by Bill Newkirk on Sat Dec 4 14:06:00 2021 Assigned to the (N) in this undated photo, passing by "shoe fly" work on the Sea Beach line At the end of a mixed consist at the Brighton line's West 8th St station, things were getting backed up a bit. Does this still occur today ? (July 1969) Next three photos of some action at the West End line's 25th Ave station. It's the end of the PM rush hour and the R-42 (RR) is on the conga line for layup at Coney Island Yard. (July 1978) Up close and personal ! (July 1978) Time to slap on the zoom lens and catch an R-32 (QB) waiting it's turn to enter Coney Island yard. (July 1978) At the 20th Ave. station, I caught this consist leaving the 18th Ave. station. Take note of the movie marquee on the Loews Oriental theater. (Sept 1978) Wide angle street view at 86th St. and Bay 26th St, the 20th Ave. station is nearby. (Sept 1978) I heard of R-38's on the (RR) and made a photographic pilgrimage to Queensboro Plaza where I tolerated the sub freezing temps to get this photo. (January 1979) R-38's made it out east and plied the rails on the (M) line seen here on the Williamsburg bridge. (March 1979) Taking advantage of the curve at the Myrtle Ave. line's Seneca Ave. station. This station was always a favorite spot for rail fans.(August 1979) At the Sea Beach line's Ave U station I guess on line for layup after the AM rush hour. (October 1979) The 80's weren't kind to the R-38's being tagged with graffiti but at decades end it was time for a general overhaul that would rebuild them and add air conditioning. Seen here at the 2nd Ave yard, the rehabbed R-38's will be placed on their trucks and off to Coney Island yard before being sent to their final destination. (September 14, 1987) In the pre-Air Train days, approaching Howard Beach station. (April 12, 1990) At the signal tower at Liberty jct, this set is only a few stations away of their final destination of Lefferts Blvd. (September 1990) |
