When the MTA demolished the NYWB viaduct south of E 180, they literally cut off a lot of options.

My preferred way of bringing the SAS to the Bronx would have been to run it along the NEC, up the viaduct, and literally end right at the NYWB station. Leave the White Plains Rd, and Pelham lines with the IRT, as they have been for 100+ years.

MAYBE, but only MYABE in the future, bring the SAS back to the Dyre, but even that I don't favor very much. I still think it's probably better for the Dyre Ave Line to remain with the IRT.
