Re: Tuscarora Almanac for January 9

Posted by Express Rider on Mon Jan 11 01:26:31 2021, in response to Re: Tuscarora Almanac for January 9, posted by randyo on Mon Jan 11 00:31:01 2021.

So, railroad north is going towards chaining point zero, and railroad south is going away from chaining point zero which may not necessarily be the geographic directions?

I originally understood, (and hope this is correct) that RR directionals, as cited in posts here, to mean that railroad north is going from a branch line to the main trunk line (towards Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn), and railroad south is going from the main trunk line to an outlying* line or branch (away from Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn)

*outlying is my wording, a "lay" non RR description

so for example, on the IRT White Plains Road line; RR south is going towards 241/Wakefield; and RR north is going towards 138 Grand Concourse correct?

So, it sounds like RR directionals are the reverse of geographic directions?

But how about in Brooklyn, is going from Dekalb in the direction of 95th St. in Bay Ridge is RR south and going from 95th St. towards Dekalb is RR north? or is it the reverse?

I hope this is correct, this can get confusing, because here, if correct the RR direction is th same as the geographic direction?

Thanks in advance for clarifying/explaining.
