Hello Elkeeper

The last EL pillar (one of the newer 1915 installed heavier ones) was extracted at 3rd Avenue & 42nd Street on Friday, February 17, 1956. It was the last remains of the 1914-15 rebuilt section of the El and its new doubled decked E.42nd Street express station.

That rebuilt and much heavier EL structure segment of about 2 blocks length was only 40 years old when demolished. I have photos (given to me in 1958)taken that day - and the well preserved various NYC newspaper articles and photos of that event that day. It was a ceremony attended by various NYC Political officials including Manhattan Boro President the (now late) Hulan Jack. As well as crowds of public onlookers.
