Landmarking protection only evolved as Jackie Onassis and others organized to save GCT from the disgusting fate of Penn Station. Chicago desires for tearing down the Loop dated from the 50s--same stupidity as ripping down the Third Avenue El. The good news is that when they rebuilt the Quincy & Wells Station, the lovely wooden detailing was retained and restored. The station is beautiful. (And ADA compliant) |
