When I was a M/M in 1969 there were R-42s on the L (LL) although the first train of A/C cars on the LL was a train of R-40Ms which made its first trip on the 511 out of canarsie on the morning of June 20 1969 with me as the M/M. The reason for the 40Ms was that the people in Canarsie were promised A/C trains by a certain date and since the newly delivered R-42s were having problems, 3 X 6 car trains of R-40Ms were fitted with Eastern Div signs and sent to ENY Yd for LL service. |
