I remember doing a practice drill near LGA in Astoria, right under the 4-22 approach on a clear sunny afternoon. The planes were coming in above us, seemingly low enough to touch. An irate resident, seeing our emergency vehicles, stormed right over and asked us what was going on. After we explained that we were practicing crash response, she shrilled that the 4-22 was supposed to be a "foul weather approach" only, and that the airport was "breaking the law".No, really. Never mind that the airport was there years before her house was. Never mind that she knew she was moving in next to the airport in the first place. This is what they're dealing with. |
