Re: Arnines on the BMT - photos - early years

The “off property” building housed the Tower and the T/D office. During at least the AM rush and possibly the PM rush, the T/D would operate from a small shed at the Manhattan end of the platform and the ATD would remain in the office tending to the train register sheets. As an aside, most documentation indicated that the Jamaica interlocking machine was like the machines at Essex St and Chambers were manufactured by Federal Switch and Signal. At some point, the machine at Essex St was replaced by GRS machine but from where I don’t know. According to a Tw/M at Jamaica I spoke to the Federal machine at Jamaica was replaced by the GRS machine removed from Gold St (Myrtle Av) circa 1960 after the Dekalb Av area was realigned. The Federal machine at Chambers remained until Chambers interlocking was completely replaced and placed on Essex St’s board.
