Elkeeper's Almanac for July 3rd.

Posted by Elkeeper on Wed Jul 3 11:04:21 2019

Service on the BRT Broadway Ferry spur, between Marcy Ave and Broadway Ferry, officially ended at 12:01AM, July 3rd, 1916. Most non-rush hour service had been provided by single enclosed car #998. Two 3-car trains of gate cars provided rush hour service. Despite calls for el shuttle restoration and complaints of inadequate trolley service to Broadway Ferry, the tracks remained out of service, except for gate car layups, until 1927. Since it carried power cables from the Kent Ave Powerhouse, the elevated structure remained in place until demolition began on May 5th, 1941 by Harris Structural Steel.
