Re: Amtrak orders 75 new Siemens Charger locomotives for LD trains

I agree that the service is useless, but there's not enough equipment to provide more service along that line, the sidings along the line are all in pretty bad shape, the stations are positioned poorly in relation to where the sidings are, and you would only be able to store about 3 trains east of Ronkonkoma on any given night. I also don't think that there's enough demand for NYC Commuter Service east of Riverhead, from what I've been told that Southampton-Penn Station morning rush train still isn't carrying too well east of Speonk.

Move Yaphank a little bit east of the Georgia Pacific lead and somehow make it service both tracks, fix up the Calverton siding, and somehow rebuild Riverhead so that it serves both tracks, and you can at least provide hourly service to Riverhead in an ideal world.

They restored weekend service and added 2 more trips because they risked losing MTA taxes in Riverhead and Southold townships. Nothing more, and it took their stupid service planners since 1986 (when they killed their bus service) to to do that.

They threatened to do that back in 2012 and it went nowhere, the service increases were implemented in 2017, doesn't seem like a back against the wall Hail Mary to me, but truth be told I have no reason to doubt that knowing how that part of Suffolk County can be.
