Re: Amtrak orders 75 new Siemens Charger locomotives for LD trains

There are those MARC coaches, which are of no interest to Mr Eng.

MARC has no plans of getting rid of them AFAIK, and the cab cars aren't compatible with the DE30AC/DM30AC as built.

They could have bought a couple of Amtrak or NJT P40's, but MN and Conn DOT got them. The ends justify the means (do nothing in order to do nothing).

Can't argue with that, there could still be a chance to buy them from CDOT if they haven't been shipped out for rebuilding already. CDOT is going to have plenty of diesel equipment to spare soon when SLE goes all M8.

All they need is another 2 car set and they can run back and forth to Yaphank every hour or two, maybe even Riverhead once in a while, and honor Zone 14 tickets on the S92 to Greenport. But LIRR doesn't even know Suffolk Transit exists.

No one wants to take the train to Yaphank in its current incarnation, I would move the station east by the Laboratory first before even entertaining that idea. Riverhead would be much more useful for North Fork commuters, but the Georgia Pacifc siding in Yaphank needs to be fixed up to allow that to happen at the very least.

Suffolk Transit and the LIRR have really poor service coordination to say the least, if you're commuting anywhere but Hauppauge or along Route 110 forget about relying on both to get you where you want to go, both agencies serve completely different demographics and both agencies make sure you know that with their scheduling. In spite of the LIRR though, the S92 does really well for itself and carries much more people out there (same with the N6 and Hempstead Branch), I can see that route eventually getting 24/7 service, and the LIRR should use it as a guideline for that area's ridership potential. At East Hampton in the morning the S92 piles in consistently full of passengers while that useless new "Hampton Connection" or whatever LIRR shuttle lets out a tumbleweed.

The South Shore needs a station somewhere in the Moriches. The Southampton train has been pretty much a waste, except for perhaps Monday mornings. It should be cut back to Westhampton.

Put up 2 Bellport-length side platforms east of Railroad Avenue and Center Moriches will be reopened for only $2 Million or so. That town really didn't want to lose their railroad service apparently.
