The Broadway Line is extended from 221st Street to 225th Street. The temporary station at 221st Street is closed and a new one opened at 225th Street.

The 191st Street-Saint Nicholas Avenue station of the IRT #1 subway line in upper Manhattan opened for passenger service. It has been long considered as the deepest station ever built on the entire NYC subway system, located 180 feet below street level.

A non-revenue train of Q-Types lead by 1619C struck the former Staten Island Railway trailer car 2925 (x 504) in the Fresh Pond Yard. The impact was strong enough to push the SIRT car through the block and down into the open cut of Long Island Railroad's Montauk Branch.
