Re: Amtrak orders 75 new Siemens Diesel locomotives for LD trains

That's OK, GE doesn't support anything else they make, either.

GE pretty much doesn't exist much anymore, IIRC, they're down to Power, Healthcare, and jet engines. And they're spinning off healthcare.

What they do with Power, who knows. The gas turbine market is soft, the steam turbine market softer, and the BWR is a dead end nuclear technology.

My guess is that within 5 years, GE will be at best a jet engine company with a few other legacy chunks being shut down. The engines stuff will go to the highest bidder, which will be maybe Honeywell, UTC (doubtful),or Safran (if the regulators allow it).

Automation stuff went to Emerson Electric, so, I guess the PLC and software line is as good as dead now (and, our GE rep has no clue who owns what anymore, and parts are starting to get hung up in the dreaded 'engineering hold'. I'm not wild about the RX3i line, the SCADA software was decent enough, but losing a viable alternative to Allen Bradley and fucking Siemens, sucks)
