Re: Amtrak orders 75 new Siemens Diesel locomotives for LD trains

For residential/commercial breakers, Square-D was always better. Not that GE's stuff was bad per se, but Square-D's was better.

For motor control centers, the old GE's were decent, the new ones are junk, like the rest of GE's low voltage line. Our GE rep doesn't even bother trying to sell us their pilot lights, switches, contactors, etc. Square-D and ABB are better (esp the IEC stuff, but you're a moron or the NYC DEP if you're still using NEMA devices). Actually, for 30mm and 22mm, I'm using IDEC more and more, 1/2 the cost of Square-D and better built (and actually made in Japan).

For drives? Forget it, I wouldn't even look at GE. ABB, Schneider (Square-D/Telemechanique), Yaskawa, and a few others first. Realistically, ABB, unless the customer's a cheapskate.

There's a few misguided souls who still use Eaton. I don't know why.
