The R-16s, and R-21s through 30s (except for the R-29s which were red) were painted olive drab which the contract books referred to as “subway green” The R-1/9s were also that color. The B of T and TA broke with the green tradition with the R-10s through 15s and the R-17. Why the R-16s were subway green and their sister IRT cars the R-17s were maroon I don’t know. |
