One Sunday afternoon while the J was going to 121, I boarded an R16 for a scheduled trip. A very old man was standing at the RFW who struck up a conversation with me. Turns out he was a retired car maintainer who worked at ENYD. He told me he worked on those cars from day 1. His first impression of them was the word "garbage". I told him they still weren't good performers and that the GE's were all long retired. To which he replied that they were the worst ones.

Of course after I closed the cab door and started the trip, I figured that the old cars, the Standards and Q types and perhaps others that were in ENY during his time were probably much easier to maintain.
