There have been occasional examples of highway bridge concrete rebar melting above heat of a burning oil tanker, requiring the bridge to be taken out of service for repair (or demolition and reconstruction).

I know of several examples where the burning oil tanker was on top of a rebar-and-concrete bridge, and there was zero structural damage to the bridge.

It seems to be one of those rare cases that we just live with in most cases of civil highway construction.
