That is a silly question - they're fixing both of those problems. Hiring more engineers and once all their locomotives/cab cars have PTC, they're good. The equipment shortage is temporary; in order to meet the requirement in time they needed to take more engines/cabs out for PTC install than they could spare. As for why they let it get that dire and didn't start upgrading earlier? I think they assumed they would be able to get a deadline extension, not expecting Anderson to throw them the "No PTC? Not on my railroad!" curveball making an extension request pointless. |
