Best Way To Hunt RFWs?

Posted by Nilet on Thu Mar 15 21:24:47 2018

So does anyone have advice for the best way to hunt down the rare remaining RFWs?

In particular...

Is there a good way to find a RFW on the 7 express rather than rely on blind luck? Is there any rhyme or reason to when the R62s get sent out or whether they'll be sent out on any given day? (Per a source of mine; there are 4 sets assigned to Corona but only one of them was on the road during the Wednesday PM rush. No idea where it was or whether it had a Queens-facing RFW since I only rode from Hudson Yards to 5th Avenue and all I saw were R188s.)

Is DJ Hammers still around? That guy seems to know where everything is all the time and may potentially be clairvoyant.

Also, is there any strategy to hunt down the last train (or several trains?) of M2s other than wait at Grand Central and peek at every outbound departure on the New Haven line? Do those trains run outside of rush hour? Would the first car invariably be open when departing Grand Central (I'm inclined to doubt that they'd close cars on a peak train.) Waiting at 125th isn't a good strategy since (a) it might skip 125th and (b) I likely wouldn't have time to buy a ticket between spotting it and it arriving so unless I know exactly where it's going in advance I'd be stuck paying on-board fare. And if there *is* a way to know in advance where it'll be, I'd love to catch it on an inbound AM train instead.
