Compare your 1941 photo with this 1924 aerial photo.
Starting from the chamfered building on the corner, count three buildings to the left and you see a building that looks like an "L" rotated 180 degrees, alongside the reverse el curve just before the platform. I suspect this is the building in question. It appears low in the 1941 photo because the el is very high at that point. Also the front of it as seen in the photo has a low wall around the edge, the same as in the modern view. Maybe it was an electrical substation for the trolleys in the area.
