One of the EEs at NJT who had been around a long time, said that the old 3kv system was actually almost as bad as the current 25kv (really 27.6kv on the Hoboken side) system is.

Realistically, you don't want to get tangled up in anything over 240 volts (480 hurts like a bitch, I hear).

Low frequency systems are said to be even more dangerous because they can screw up your heartbeat, which 50/60hz isn't as prone to doing. At least the phone company claimed so (ringing frequency is around 250z in the US, Europe uses 25Hz. Go figute)
