2 only implies that less actual anaesthesia is needed than commonly used. It doesn't imply that acupuncture added anything useful. It's also possible the breathing regimen had some effect.

I do not trust the veracity of the source in 1. I would need to read an analysis from a legitimate science-based medical source.
