Random musing having nothing to do with the main topic at hand, but denial at contradicting evidence is how most people work. It takes an overwhelming amount of evidence to change anyone's belief once it has been established. In addition to having a solid argument, the hurdles of confirmation bias and pride must be overcome. It's far easier to instill beliefs into those who haven't given the topic much thought, than to try and change anyone's mind. Thus the reason debates exist, and why jurors shouldn't have any preexisting knowledge of the trial they are deliberating.
