Probably because the priority for new car assignments was for the IRT and BMT mainlines rather than elevated lines that the TA would have liked to get rid of sooner than it did. I think what kept Myrtle around so long was the presence of the Bkln Navy Yard and when that ceased operations, ridership on Myrtle fell drastically. In the late 1950s/early 1960s there was talk of putting IRT Lo-Vs on Myrtle, but I suspect that even the minimal expense of relocating the tripcocks was ;probably deemed too expensive for the TA suits. |
