A super crazy fantasy idea |

Posted by NIMBYkiller on Fri Jul 31 11:38:56 2015 -2 new North River tubes into Penn Station south-ARC alternative G (connecting NYP tracks 1-5 with GCT lower level) -New tunnel from NJ to lower Manhattan from NJ for NJ Transit for both existing and new rail services -PATH extended onto LIRR Atlantic Av branch to Jamaica -New LIRR tunnel to lower Manhattan off the Bushwick branch -New CityExpress service using commuter tracks for faster service within the city and immediate surrounding region than the existing subway or subway/bus combo. You get: -Greater capacity at NYP and GCT via thru-running -New capacity for NJ Transit and Amtrak at NYP via new tubes and Penn South -New branch services for NJ Transit and a new destination in Manhattan for existing services as well -Subway frequencies on Atlantic Av line offering an alternative to the Fulton St express, especially for linking downtown Brooklyn and another area with crazy TOD potential (Jamaica) -LIRR doesn't lose much capacity because Brooklyn services are redirected to lower Manhattan with new tunnel from Bushwick/lower Montauk -Lower Montauk stations reopened Fresh Pond to Jamaica with a destination that's actually useful to those neighborhoods (also meaning resumption of service to neighborhoods that are currently lacking in rail transit options) -New station in popular Bushwick/Williamsburg area (maybe original Bushwick station and a new one tied in to the partially built S4th St station at Broadway). -New bi-state authority administering a frequent rail service within the immediate area of the city Issues: -Funding -Yard placement if NJ Transit/LIRR/MN are now all thru running -Grade crossings on Bushwick and Lower Montauk -Double tracking Bushwick -Redesigning PATH WTC station Do your worst... |
