Correct.

The use of double-name stations is inconsistent and unnecessary and confusing.

Sometimes, the double names represent the intersection: Hoyt - Schermerhorn

Sometimes, two names for the same street: 69 St - Fisk Av

Sometimes, two different streets but at the same exit: 90 St - Elmhurst Av

Sometimes, two different streets at different exits: 174 St - 175 St

Sometimes, a street and a landmark: 5 Av - Bryant Park

The use of the same punctuation for all these different cases adds to the confusion. Here's an alternative:

Intersection: Hoyt/Schermerhorn
Same street, different names: 69 St (Fisk Av)
Two streets, same exit: 90 St, Elmhurst Av
Two streets, different exits: 174 St - 175 St
Street and landmark: 5 Av & Bryant Park

Most IND stations were built with exits at each end, but only a few were given double names. Why? Just because there are two exits doesn't mean there must be two names. And when one of the two exits is closed, we're stuck with the unnecessary (and misleading) double name: Myrtle - Willoughby

Even though I don't favor messing with the mosaics, certainly the maps and pillars can be changed to simply Myrtle Av
