There has been quite a bit of excellent discussion and many good points and thoughts have surfaced on this thread. What scares the hell out of me, is the day of reckoning that will arrive when the WillyB and Manhattan Bridge crossings or any particular tunnel can no longer be economically kept in service for Rapid Transit (or later on vehicles). Expanding service in underserved or growing areas is a laudable concept, even with the debate over precisely how to plan the future. I'm still very concerned over the notion of spending billions to secure our future, without the commitment to preserve the present. |
