Hmmm...right.I too,have my reservations about the future. The idea of replacing the two east river bridge crossings should have been sorted out during the Manhattan Bridge problem. What twenty years of work accomplished was a temporary fix at best...the same problem will occur sometime in the future.. Lower Manhattan Access could have helped towards a viable solution, by building a four tracked double decked tunnel under the river.. Another tunnel located further north to serve the Eastern routes in the same manner the proposed IND second system should have done to redirect traffic to the heart of Manhattan Island via a east side route. Lack of interest,disinvestment has stagnated our life's blood...its time that the MTA look into others ways to move riders,using new technology... such as lightrail along some unused corridors... and other avenues. |
