I recall seeing brown diamond "RR/Nassau St" bullets on side signs, perhaps on R16/27/30/32/38s, but I don't recall ever seeing such a front brown diamond sign. Were there such front signs on the rolls of the R40's and 42's even though they were never used?

It seemed strange seeing the usually-yellow RR in brown. Did any other letters have multiple colors? I know that during the major Manhattan bridge re-routes there were both yellow and orange Q's etc, but that represents irregular service, not regular routes.
