In the case of the West Hempstead branch, the people don't use it on weekends because they don't need it. These are not densely populated neighborhoods, there is little commercial activity around any of the stations to attract "destination" riders, and the service takes an indirect route to the city (even ignoring transfers). The service is helpful during the rush hour because the indirect routing is offset by not having to deal with traffic. |
