This morning I did some urban exploring along 1st Ave in Brooklyn. I had never been there before and did not know the status of this street running line. It appeared to me that this trackage is not in use, and even by the Costco Store and under the Gowanus Expwy the trackage did not seem to be used. There is tho an NS boxcar about midway along 1st Ave behind the fencing. At one time there were several TA connections with the national rail network like Parkville Jct and at New Lots Ave station on the Canarsie Line. These are long gone tho. Does the 1st Ave line represent any type of connection to the national network? That is, can this be used as a connection? I ask this because I think that new subway cars today are delivered by flatbed truck, but I may be wrong about this. Or is there a connection maybe in the Bronx that I am not aware of? Thanks.
