Posted by Edwards! on Thu Dec 12 19:28:56 2013, in response to Re: Archer Avenue Subway - 25th Anniversary, posted by MainR3664 on Thu Dec 12 06:47:03 2013. im sorry...but the people running the MTA at the time were deeply self involved..a continuous black eye..even the President of the USA at the time,Ronald Reagan,was EXTREMELY upset with them..cutting off ALL FUNDING until a full investigation is undertaken concerning the 63rd st..Second avenue..and Archer avenue subways. another reason the South Jamaica line never materialized was the dispute with the LIRR.The railroad didn't want to give up its trackage for long term construction..didn't want to give up its row at all. the money for the new routes plan dried up from various misuses..corruption..and plain ineptitude. |
