Posted by andy on Tue May 15 16:22:18 2012 71 years ago...May 15, 1941, the NYC Board of Transportation began service on the new Dyre Avenue Line, then a shuttle (under IND divsion management) between Dyre Avenue and E 180th St. From there passengers walked through the old NY W &B station to the IRT and a free transfer to the Lexington Avenue subway trains. The new line's r.o.w. was of course, the 1912-built New York Westchester and Boston RR, which had closed in 1937 due to low ridership. |
