Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee were high/low, and had both third rail and overhead trolley. Today, San Francisco lrvs are both street (low platform) and high platform (in the subway). Karlsruhe, Germany has lrvs that are similar to San Francisco (high/low platform) and also operate on the Deutsche Bahn (national railway system), sharing facilities with Acela-type trains and high speed freights. These are just a few examples; I suggest you check these out before saying "it can't be done." It has long ago and in the present. |
