A "solid-state" electronic machine has no mechanical parts. A "modern mechanical" machine does. How can a slot machine with mechanical reels spin "electronically"? Yes, there is a computer that starts and stops the reels spinning. But the machine still has gears and rods that make its reels spin, which is why I say it's mechanical.
