When I rode the U-Bahn in Stuttgart, they had roll signs on both the ends of the trains and the sides that were set from the cab and then automatically stopped at the proper position. Those have been replaced by LED signs AFAIK based on photos I've seen from there since I was there in 2002 but the strip maps on the interior of the car were also rolls set by the destination code that would stop in line with the LEDs to show the upcoming stops as needed for that particular line. That sort of solution would have worked very well in NYC for the R142s and R143s. |
