Leap year occurs every 4 years except 3 times every 400 years on a century year. So on 2100, 2200 and 2300, there will not be leap years. A Microsoft program called Excel did not take this into account for years 1700, 1800 or 1900. This is what this is about. Likely, no one here discussing it will be alive when it next occurs. |

As I mentioned, I was involved in Y2K at my previous job and my current job after I arrived (July 1998). Part of the process for date handling was allowing for February 29th in years divisible by 4. As you said, this would not be the case in the year 2100, but of course, no one currently working in my job will be alive then, so, not our problem. Obviously, there will be new software in place by then that should account for this, in fact, the process has already started to transition from mainframe (using COBOL!!) to more web-based software using SQL among other things. Fortunately, I should be retired by the time the mainframe is completely gone. |

It's not bullshit to be concerned about coronavirus, though I agree it's extremely unlikely to be a massive disaster. But there are going to be layoffs in the US pretty soon because manufacturers here can't get parts from their suppliers in China who have shut down.Hmm. Pity the President of the United States didn't tell us about his concerns, and didn't order a massive gear-up of mask production. Maybe we wouldn't have had weeks in March where 50K additional NYC residents were contracting covid every day, leading a month later to 500 to 1000 deaths per day. |
