It's a very beautiful place, including 4 really spectacular national parks, and you'll meet lots of Mormons and very few Catholics or Jews.My wife and I once attended mass at the Catholic Church in Green River, UT, which is the biggest town on I-70 in UT. Total attendance, about 6, which was evidently standard. The priest had to travel 40 miles to get there from his home parish. The whole state is a single Catholic diocese! |

I worked in UT in the early 80's and one had to pay a membership to drink in a bar. I remember paying 15 bucks at a place in Salina so I could have a drink and a steak (That rule has been lifted and one can simply walk into a bar and order up now). I also remember buying beer in a store in Moab that was a cinder block building and one slid the money under a partition like at a train ticket window and out came a case of beer :PI met nice people in UT and would go back to visit anytime. your pal, Fred |

Back in 1993 I was sent by NYCT to Plaino, Tx. to learn the Luminator side sign system used on the R-44/R-46 contracts. Drinking in Dallas was a similar issue. One person at the table at each restaurant had to join a "drinking club" in order for the table to be served alcohol. We joined several clubs during that time. |

In a majority Islam country, it's easy to be exposed to such, like most curious kids I wouldn't doubt he spent an hour in a madrassah (Catechism for Muslim kids) just to see what it was about. A childhood friend of mine, raised Unitarian, was fascinated by Catholic practices. She would come to Mass to see what it was all about. Part of it is just fitting in. Kids want to do that, especially among peers. |
