Written by snobs who shop at Whole Foods and rely on consumer complaints (which are often baseless) to make judgment. That being said, Pathmark has declined alarmingly in recent years. Even the ones in nice neighborhoods are bad. Wal*Mart should not be on this list and Stop & Shop's only real problem is prices. That's basically it. The pretty much reads as a list of the most popular supermarkets and that's it. My family were bargain snobs. They liked shopping at the cheapest places, and we often drove to Pathmark of LIC just to get shit for pennies less and ended up cluttering the house with junk and throwing out unused items. |

Meh, as far as I'm concerned, that list is invalid without this store included:Can't believe Ralph's was included, I enjoyed shopping there when I lived in So. Cal. (alternated with Vons) And Food Lion, they had one in the small town in North Carolina where my cousin used to live (she had gotten too old to live on her own, so she moved in with her husband's relatives in Georgia (he passed away several years ago). The store there seemed OK, wonder if it will be one of the ones to be closed. Food Lion |

I'll always associate Food Lion with that news report that showed them selling bad meat after soaking it in bleach and adding seasoning.I used to like Ralph's and they are still ok, but most of their stores are older (at least around here) and Albertson's are better. IMO grocery stores around here have all gotten better over the last 10-15 years. All of the smaller ones have been replaced with more modern supermarkets, although we still don't have the enormous grocery stores like I see around the country. |

Why do you say that? This clearly was yanked from the May 2012 Consumer Reports article on supermarket rankings. Their methodology was: "Ratings are based on 24,203 responses to a survey conducted by Consumer Reports National Research Center. Respondents could tell us about their experiences at one or two stores between April 2010 and April 2011. The survey reflects 42,695 visits to supermarkets, super centers, warehouse clubs, and limited-assortment stores. The findings represent the experiences of our readers, not necessarily those of the general population. Reader Score measures overall satisfaction with the shopping experience and isn't limited to the criteria listed in the table. A score of 100 would mean all respondents were completely satisfied; 80 means they were very satisfied, on average; 60 fairly satisifed. Differences of fewer than 5 points are not meaningful. Scores for service, perishables, price, and cleanliness are relative. Service combines satisfaction with employee courtesy and checkout speed. Perishables refers to the quality of meat and produce. We lacked sufficient data to rate the quality of perishables at Save Mart"The full list is as follows: 1) WegmansIf you want the ratings and their scores in the respective categories then you'll have to pick up a copy. |
