So a Dr. would prescribe birth control pills to a woman with precancerous cells on her cervix. Some experts in the field might disagree with you.

How do oral contraceptives affect cervical cancer risk?
Evidence shows that long-term use of OCs (5 or more years) may be associated with an increased risk of cancer of the cervix (the narrow, lower portion of the uterus) (12). Although OC use may increase the risk of cervical cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV) is recognized as the major cause of this disease.

Now, who is going to bend over you fat tub of shit?

On the other hand, taking the recommended dose of acetominophen can put you on dialysis for the rest of your life if you happen to be drunk at the time you take it. Shouldn't Tylenol be prescription-only for similar reasons?

And taking aspirin or ibuprofen regularly can give some people life threatening ulcers.

Prescription drugs are classified as such because the FDA has decided that they're "prescription drugs." Your argument requires us to assume that birth control is dangerous to the extent that it should only be administered by prescription. How do you figure that? And what would stop someone from getting one prescription at CVS, and filling another at Walgreens. It's not up to the pharmacist either.

Nothing, but it's very unwise, though unfortunately encouraged by modern day health insurance, where you get your long term stuff by mail and only your short term stuff from the local pharmacy.

One of the biggest causes of medical problems, especially for older people, is conflicting medicines.

Actually, despite all of the "expert" testimony to the contrary, posted here, any time you put either a natural or synthetic hormone into your body, it does have an affect on the body as a whole. The link I provided just discussed the effects some specific hormones have on some cancer rates but the fact that women gain weight, and have increased production of hair as well as other side effects, are a pretty good indication that they should not be dispensed over the counter. Perhaps the OTC advocate would also advocate the sale over the counter of HGH or even prednisone. We could use a leap in the suicide rate in this country.

The birth control debate is ultimately a eugenic one (no matter they tell you). It's underlying goal is captured in the question "can we get more low-IQ/low-conscientiousness people (especially those of color) to use the pill so we don't have to deal with their troublesome and costly spawn?" But, the availability of birth control is what breathed life into the sexual revolution and is the foundation of our sexually liberated society. What effect on the fertility of people of different social classes would OTC oral contraceptive have? It's hard to say; one would imagine that it would lead to fewer births among the poor, but I think that fear of the effect of birth control on the upper classes (people we want to keep in society) is the source of apprehension over it.

No, it's more about keeping women out of full participation in society, especially economically. If they're saddled with pregnancy and an ever expanding number of children, it's difficult to keep a job. It's about creating dependency. There are plenty of men who are still frightened by independent women.
