I guess this will convince Jeff Rosen.Pretty sad. It's illegal for parents to send their kids to school with a sandwich. This is why government wants the percentage of single-parent households to continue growing. It allows government to have more control. |

How does saying something like that make it any better? The fact that the school even thinks that it should be able to second guess what a parent sends with their child as lunch is an abomination. The other two mentioned things, especially the Advil is bad, but the lunch thing is ridiculous. |

It's about how much power the state should have over a parent-child relationship. There is good reason for the school to want to provide a health lunch to students. But parents should have final say.And how are chicken nuggets "healthy"? Because it's a "serving of meat/poultry"? Those things are loaded with calories. |

Of course they should. The school lunches should be there just as they always have been, if the parent doesn't send their kid to school with lunch, so they have lunch, or if the parent doesn't want their kid eating what the school provides. That is the PARENT decision. Of course for the kids that threw their mother's lunch in the trash and bought whatever the school is selling. Either way it's not the public institution's decision to overstep a parent. |

In a blanket statement kind of way it is. Specifically no, because if the school bans home lunches, parents know upfront what's going on. And it's not really lunch "inspection" but more some school employee noticing someone's lunch and commenting on it, which is bullshit.your pal, Fred |

That's locally set policies which the parents can change by running for school board and then changing the policy. It isn't difficult, and would set a good example for the kids about enacting change in a positive manner. Fact is, it doesn't mean enough to the parents to do it. It takes time and effort on their part, they'd rather just whine about it. |

Fer chrissakes, it's a local school board's policy. Government has much bigger things to handle than PB&J. Go run for school board and set the lunch policy. The Dept of Agriculture, which funds the school lunch program has NO policy on brown bag lunches. There is no other authority to answer to WRT this.Do everyone a favor, get off the internet, run for school board and change the lunch policy. Trolling the forum here about it isn't going to change a thing. |
