Michele Bachmann Concerned About 'Rise Of Soviet Union', 20 Years After Its Fall |
|
|
Posted by JayZeeBMT on Fri Aug 19 22:14:58 2011 Michele, dear, the USSR fell 20 years ago. What is it with GOP candidates and their astonishing ignorance of history? La Palin was bad enough with her fractured retelling of Paul Revere's midnight ride, now Bachmann is worrying about a country that hasn't existed in nearly a generation? WTH???Here's what she said during a radio interview with Jay Sekulow: "What people recognize is that there's a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward," I guess Bachmann can't see Russia from her house... |

You not able to see the headlines? Forgot that back in 2005, Putin called the fall of the USSR the 20th Century's "greatest geopolitical tragedy"? He couldn't have said something more reprehensible, never mind anti-US and antisemitic. Putin's ambition is to rebuild the Soviet Union, albeit in his own image. |

Putin can cry all he wants about the old USSR, but even he would be hard-pressed to rebuild it. Such a thing would take military force far beyond what Russia is capable of supporting, PLUS there's the not-so-minor matter of the Russian people themselves, who won't be so quick to allow the resurrection of the USSR. |

No, it wouldn't take military force. All he needs is economic force, just like Germany used in Europe. Right now, Russia and Germany are working arm-in-arm to wage this economic warfare as well as carve up Eastern Europe between them . . . yes, it is what it sounds like. |

Bachmann is in her mid 50s. Ask a person of average inteligence where Minsk is (with not abilty to look it up) and many of them will say "Russia", since that's where it was for about 100 years. To people of Bachmann's generation, "Russia" and "the Soviet Union" mean the same thing. |

The mainstream media. It doesn't become "tinfoil hat stuff" just because you want it to be. Russia's got their hand on the gas spigot; remember what they did to the Ukraine as a consequence (I wonder if a certain arachno-porcine cares about that at all); they utterly destroyed the Orange Revolution, between them and Germany. And what about that country in the Caucasus with the same name as our fourth state? They did use military force on them. Don't dare think Pooty-poot's averse to using his military . . . forgot about Russian planes buzzing Guam back in '07? |

Russia's economic power is even more inextricably tied to oil prices than the other OPEC members, mostly because their energy concerns have not translated petrodollars into foreign investments. Yes, they have a few overseas holdings, but by and large they're using their relatively new found oil income to pay off the old Soviet debts. As such they (and Venezuela, and Iran, for that matter) are even more susceptible to any movement we can make toward reducing our demand for oil. Thus one has to wonder why you'd criticize efforts to marginalize their economic power (and apparently Germany's influence if we follow your Beck-like chalkboard scrawlings). We can beat them without firing a shot, yet you and your ilk seem hell bent on both making us thoroughly subservient to them, and forcing us into a war with them. Why do we have to pursue a path which gets us the worst of all possible outcomes? |
