The Democratic Party does NOT want to see a default, they want to see some sanity in planning and reducing the deficit. Not that it's actually a major problem (latest CBS poll showed 53% concerned about unemployment, 7% concerned about the deficit/debt as their primary issue) to the overwhelming majority. Shutting down the government by cutting off the money IS far greater a concern, as it should be, to everyone.

The republicans are acting like a bunch of idiots. They are willing to take the global economy out for no damn reason beyond their personal greed.

If they didn't want to see a default, they would've set a budget or at least given a budget plan in the last 3 years. Which they ain't. If the demokkkrats didn't want a default, they wouldn't have been the Party of No and passed the damned thing already. The federal demokkkrats are doing the same thing they've done at the state and local levels nationally. Scare people, cause chaos, and destroy lives.
Obama has said he wants to take out the system, and destroy it. Stop projecting.

And Obama's base sees it too. America and Obama's fundraisers from 2008 have all pulled a Boehner and is giving up on this loser. But at least his chief fundraiser is still claiming to taking international and foreign funds. Illegally.

The programs INCORRECTLY characterized as "entitlements"you must mean. Social Security is actually an investment pension, so ROI is the best descriptor for that system. Medicare is insurance, and there's a premium for it.

To not keep both programs going, paying full benefits, is a breach of contract. Apparently the republicans have noissue with breaking this contract. Nobody should take them at their word if this is how they intend to do things. Get them OUT of office FAST. It'll be best for America when they're GONE.

You keep playing the republican vs democrat thing. I cashed out a considerable amount of vacation and sick leave, thank you. Republican or democrat, I was only allowed to put a maximum amount into my 401K and a maximum amount into my 457 plan. The rest - had to be taken in cash after withholding at the rate of about 47%. Yeah, I know it sux but it would have been more sucky under Clinton and worse had I waited for obama to do his thing.

YES our allies. First in line for that. They're doing fine, we're not. Let them pay their own bills for a change.

Really. He should write a novel out of all the fiction he's posted here. He's got enough material.

Cutting foreign aid would be meaningless WRT the budget. It's such a small percentage.

Meaningful cuts are wasteful military spending including contracting out services for deployments such as KBR running mess halls, and unwanted programs like that plane the republicans just funded. Cutting subsidies for big business....agriculture, mining, oil would go a long way. raising taxes on the biggest...businesses,incomes, would make an even BIGGER difference in the deficit and debt.

Remember it wasn't all that long ago when the republicans were whining to cut taxes instead of using the surplus to pay down the debt, which it was INTENDED FOR. Some of us saw this coming a long long time ago. However, the republicans coopted the government and stole everyone's future.

It's the Baby Boomers that have destroyed the country and "stole everyone else's future". It will be up to the GenX'ers to fix the MESS that the baby boomers have caused. It's amazing that the Greatest Generation produced one of the most useless generations in between.

"unwanted programs like that plane the republicans just funded. "

Actually, it's huge entitlements like health care reform that will drive new debt out of control (to the extent of $30 Trillion) and most of the citizens of this country DO NOT WANT. That's where cutting should begin.....
