At Mass last night, they were doing adult baptisms and confirmations and it was interesting. One girl cried on the altar. I guess they didn't do babies to avoid all the crying at Easter Vigil. The priest should give this kid communion. |

I can go on a long rant about the Catholic Church.Funny how the libs say that the church is too conservative and the conservatives see it as liberal. The Church is pro-life pro-marriage and its also pro-immigration and pro-worker. Libs focus on the first two will the hard edge of the right look at the last two as evidence that the Church is wrong. |

Yeah they do that on Easter Vigil. My aunt told me they did it at her church in California too. It was the first time she'd ever seen that. She knew the guy's wife too and they said hello. He was a convert. The RCC didn't use to do these very public displays of faith. I think the American church is probably the only one that does it. |

They figure that US Hispanics are the future of the Catholic Church, and they don't want to lose any more members to these store-front Christian cults. It's funny how the Catholic church in downtown Tampa(Sacred Heart) is largely white(hot hot women) and just a few miles away it's all Hispanic. |

If they don't understand what they are doing, then yes they should deny it.Partaking in the Eucharistic is like a contract between you and Christ and that also includes Confession and is stepping stone towards more learning while working toward Confirmation. How is somebody with the mental development of a six month old child supposed to understand all this. I give credit to the priest for not making a mockery of these Sacraments by granting them to this child. |

I have major disagreements with the Catholic church. I disagree with the Church's position on:1.) Priestly Celibacy - I believe Priests should be allowed to get married and have families. Me too. There's a reason for everything. The church is enormous. That's one reason why they don't want to provide for the livelihood of priests and families. Can you imagine your local rectory containing priests and wives and families? Ugh. It's easy for someone to start their own church in an old movie theater in Elmhurst and have a wife and kids who most likely help run the thing. 2.) All male Priesthood - I believe females should be able to be able to serve in the Priesthood and can be just as effective as males. I think that's because the priest is playing the role of Jesus in reenacting the Last Supper, and Jesus was a male. 3.) Stance on condoms / birth control / premarital sex / masturbation RC is a church. What are they supposed to say about rubbers, having sex before marriage and jerking off? 4.) Views of homosexuality Ok. Marriage has been understood to be a bond between one man and one woman for centuries in religions all over the globe, not just Catholicism. 5.) THIS: Abortion? Baby's heart is beating after just three weeks. That's what all the highway billboards in Florida say, and they're not being placed by the Catholic church. Many denominations believe that abortion is killing an unborn baby. It's not just the Catholic church that believes this. |

Of course, from my experience, the multi-generationed Mormons who have lived in Salt Lake for a long time don't like the influx of Hispanics. Much like most of the Arizona anti-Hispanic sentiment seems to be caused by the multi-generationed Mormons here. There seems to be a schism in immigration / racial feeling between the LDS leadership and its people. |

Other denominations had to do it to differentiate themselves from the RC and attract preachers who want a normal life.It would be very hard for the Catholic Church to do the same. Very risky. To many potential financial and p.r. nightmares. RC can't reverse things now. Priests should just hook up with women on the side. |

Even in Forest Hills, largely Jewish, the older European Jews(Ashkenazi) complain about the Bukharians. The Bukharians now have their own congregations while the Georgians have their own.In the end, it's all about birthrate. I'd bet that the birthrate among Ashkenazi Jews is much lower than in the Bukharian community so the Bukharian influence is now strongest in Forest Hills. Just like the influence of Hispanics is being felt in the Catholic church and they'll adjust or the church will lose members. I actually attend mass in Spanish at times. I'm lazy and don't wake up early. If I miss 5p mass I'll have to attend en espanol at 12:30. |

I don't care. It happens. If the RC church allowed families, they would have to greatly reduce the number of priests in order to afford the wives and kids. It's easy for a smaller denomination to make their own rules and make families work. RC just can't do it now. |

I don't think it's ever too late for something to change. The RC church is going to have to adapt to being a church in the 21st Century.
