Yeah they do that on Easter Vigil.My aunt told me they did it at her church in California too. It was the first time she'd ever seen that. She knew the guy's wife too and they said hello. He was a convert. The RCC didn't use to do these very public displays of faith. I think the American church is probably the only one that does it. |

Even in Forest Hills, largely Jewish, the older European Jews(Ashkenazi) complain about the Bukharians. The Bukharians now have their own congregations while the Georgians have their own.In the end, it's all about birthrate. I'd bet that the birthrate among Ashkenazi Jews is much lower than in the Bukharian community so the Bukharian influence is now strongest in Forest Hills. Just like the influence of Hispanics is being felt in the Catholic church and they'll adjust or the church will lose members. I actually attend mass in Spanish at times. I'm lazy and don't wake up early. If I miss 5p mass I'll have to attend en espanol at 12:30. |
