GOP Budget Cuts - What was that all about? |
|
Posted by italianstallion on Thu Feb 3 14:53:12 2011 After months of huffing and puffing, the GOP comes out with there budget cuts plan. Wait for it now . . . a cut of 2 -- count it, 2 - percent over this year's budget.GOP scales back budget cut goals I thought Obama was destroying America by increasing spending. So the solution is a cut of 2%? I guess the GOP must be socialists too. ![]() |

Yeah and all the hospitals and nursing homes in the countries close and millions are laid off prompting a dramatic drop in tax revenues further increasing the deficit and guaranteeing national bankruptcy.Medicaid is structural to the economy just like defense spending. It's a job program for hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies and doctors. Just like food stamps and school lunches are for the farm and grocer industries. Nobody gives a shit about the poor people. |

It's a 2% "cut" on only a small sliver of the overall budget. The rest is untouched. This is a joke. And this is only their broad blueprint. Wait until appropriations when the cut becomes 0.5%. |

I'd say that the abuse is a small fraction of Medicaid. IIRC, the vast majority of Medicaid users are people in nursing homes that aren't really abusing the system. |

There is abuse in the defense contracting system too but it provides jobs and keeps manufacturing and corporate profits going. That's all that matters. Especially when unemployment is high.Medicaid probably produces even more jobs than the defense industry and those industries are just as powerful within both parties. The 90's GOP Congress also greatly expanded it when it ceased to be a welfare program. Why do you think that even the GOP hardly raised a peep over the Medicaid expansion within ObamaCare. They were pissed over other parts of it but not that part. Medicaid is a sacred cow. |

Posted by SMAZ on Fri Feb 4 01:27:00 2011, in response to Re: GOP Budget Cuts - What was that all about?, posted by LuchAAA on Fri Feb 4 01:07:44 2011. Nope. Almost all long-term nursing home and hospice care is Medicaid.Just about every nursing home in the country would shut down if Medicaid were substantially slashed. It's why a chunk of the Stimulus money went to prop up State Medicaid systems. Of all those millions of jobs that were saved by the stimulus, a great majority of them were health care and nursing home private sector jobs. Unemployment in Florida, Nevada and Arizona and other "old people places" would have surpassed 20% had it not been for the Medicaid Rescue (aka the ARRA). The only Governor in the country who had the balls to cut Medicaid was Matt Blunt of Missouri in 2005. He was run out of office. He didn't even bother to run for re-election. The Democrat ended up getting over 60% of the vote. Even that State's GOP realized they had made a terrible mistake and they campaigned on reversing the cuts. |

Or let's say they do, until they find out the nursing home is coming after them to the tune of $10K month for a parent's care. Or that their kid can't stay away at college because they lost their student aid money. Or that their kids and grandkids are moving into their trailer because the son-in-law lost his maintenance job for the town due to elimination of federal aid to localities and the locals won't raise taxes to make up the difference.... the possibilities go on and on.Reminisce about the "good old days" all you want..... rest assured, taxes were higher than. |

You can keep your home, married, widowed or single. Of course, you have to have family empty out and sell its contents, as that's the *only* asset you get to keep. Nor are any assets permitted for maintenance or taxes, so they don't make it all that easy to keep. All you get to keep for income are SS benefits, minus Medicare (still covers hospitalization, chronic care and some rehab that Medicaid does not) premiums. |
