Almost all long-term nursing home and hospice care is Medicaid.Just about every nursing home in the country would shut down if Medicaid were substantially slashed. It's why a chunk of the Stimulus money went to prop up State Medicaid systems. Of all those millions of jobs that were saved by the stimulus, a great majority of them were health care and nursing home private sector jobs. Unemployment in Florida, Nevada and Arizona and other "old people places" would have surpassed 20% had it not been for the Medicaid Rescue (aka the ARRA). The only Governor in the country who had the balls to cut Medicaid was Matt Blunt of Missouri in 2005. He was run out of office. He didn't even bother to run for re-election. The Democrat ended up getting over 60% of the vote. Even that State's GOP realized they had made a terrible mistake and they campaigned on reversing the cuts. |
