A poll in one of today's papers shows over 50% support in every borough for having Walmart within NYC, even in Mahnattan. I hope one does come to Gateway. East New York is an area that needs a large discount retailer, plus it's right off the Belt Parkway.Walmart was looking for a location on SI a few years ago, maybe somewhere in Richmond Valley. |

IME Walmart is neither as bad as critics say nor as good as its supporters say. Once you shop at Walmart a coupla times you'll wonder what the big deal is. Sometimes they're the cheapest and sometimes you could have saved a trip. I buy $10 jeans at Walmart and they also carry the wood charcoal I need to bbq. Their grocery store Walmarts have more products from Mexico than the local groceries, which suits me fine. I used to make a separate stop to Wm to buy paper products but found they were the same price as the grocery store I just left. Ehh, they're ok, but you'll see.My main peeve with Walmart is they're doing their best to begin the Christmas season at Labor Day. your pal, Fred |

WalMart is not "always" cheaper, but is sometimes.I have a Sam's Club membership, and the only reason I have it there is because the location is more convenient to my travels than my nearest Costco, and definitely closer than BJ's for me. However, Costco and BJ's blow Sam's Club away in both quality, selection, and often price. |

I know a few plumbers and electricians, and that's why I used the Delta Faucet example, as I heard it first hand. If you look closely at two of the "same" product, you can often find minor differences. The weed whacker example is another one. There are examples all over the Home Depot store, flooring, and all kinds of things.I assume the same is true of Lowes, but I know first hand it's true for Home Depot. Again, I would assume the same could be true for WalMart, but can't back that up. |

It's hard to believe it's true, but it really is. I shop a lot at EITHER Target or WalMart, and most definitely, the clientele is WAY better than that of WalMart, and I have no idea why. Even within the same neighborhood.Between the WalMart Stores always seemingly looking like a bomb went off (perhaps because of the quality of the clientele), and the clientele at WalMart, Target is a better shopping experience. WalMart has better selection than KMart. I find KMart stores to be more orderly though than WalMart, although still feel WalMart is a better store. Target is better than either.Ironically, one of the WalMarts near me remodeled, and while it still looks like a bomb went off, and it still has that same dredges sort of clientele, the store "looks" a lot more like Target than older, unrenovated WalMart stores. |
