Luna Park to open by Memorial Day!! |
|

Posted by rbseabeach on Mon Mar 8 18:52:53 2010 The new amusement park for CI will be called Luna Park. Nineteen new high end rides will open by Memorial Day on the site of the old Astroland. By next summer another new park will rise on Stillwell Avenue. NYC will also be developping Steeplechase Plaze next to the parachute jump. THis will be a visitors welcome center. Looks like Coney is FINALLY comming back! |

For one thing, the company that was chosen by NYC, is the largest manufacturer of amusements world wide. NYC has committed funds for infrastructure improvements, the Acquarium is receiving over 100 million for upgrades including new sharks, (If they really want sharks they can go to 16 COurt Street LOL!!) This company has a 10 year lease and is investing big money in the amusement area. By 2011, CI will have more amusements and rides than at any time after 1964. This is a good thing. NYC families will be attracted to CI as well as tourists. |

Maybe we should have just built more housing projects where the amusement district is, mayube we should have not built MCU (KeySpan Park)? No improvements were made to this gritty sad excuse for an amusement park since it opened. IT was such a great place that the Warriors were filmed there. FYI...the owner of Astroland was given big money for Astroland by Thor Equities three years ago. She coudl have taken LESS money and had her lease extended. BUT she was greedy. She took mopre money (I think it was 30 million) and then she went back to Thor two years later asking for another lease extension for the 2009 season. Thor said no. She could have easily taken less and stayed open for 2009 but once again greed prevailed. No one reports it that way though. |

It's the same ones that complain about "what Times Square has become". "Oh Times Square lost it's personality". Please. Dirt, crime, prostitution, drug addicts, and abandoned deteriorating theaters don't qualify as "great personality in my book. The new Times Square didn't destroy the great old Golden Ave Times Square of the pre-1960's....it was dead by the 70's and 80's already. |
