They sound like they don't exclude anyone although they do exclude people marching for other causes unrelated to St. Patrick's Day. That was my point.Maybe a more similar example would be if a MLK Jr Day Parade excluded black gay groups. I'm trying to remember if there is a black gay group that marches in the LA Kingdom Day Parade and I think that there might be. Not positive though. |

It's recognized as such by the City Of New York, the issuer of permits.2. How am I being a "radical troublemaker" by marching in a parade (with City Council Speaker Quinn, no less) organized by others, on a public street in my own borough? 3. "My ilk"? Quinn isn't "pandering" to me, and neither are the two other gay Councilmembers who joined us. On the contrary, they are among the parade's biggest supporters, as is Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, who wants this parade to stay in Queens. 4. NY1 decides on its own what events in NYC are newsworthy. No one forces them (or any of the other news media) to cover the parade. 5. The use of St. Patrick's ("St.Pat's") name in the Parade--For All--is perfectly correct. It's an inclusive celenbration of Irish heritage and New York City's patron. |

I marched in the parade yesterday, dressed very conservatively (pics coming), and even handed out flyers inviting paradegoers to tomorrow's celebration of Irish culture at City Hall. No political banners. No shamrock-and-rainbow flags. Oh, and I was invited by Speaker quinn's office to march with her contingent. If I am "what is wrong with NYC", then so, too, is Speaker Quinn, Councilmembers Dromm, Mendez, and Van Bramer, and oh, yes, most of the City Council's operations staff. I'd rather live in such a "wrong" city, than the NYC you'd force upon us if you could. You'd put people of "my ilk" in prison for homosexuality, wouldn't you? Your continuing, rabid, ad hominem attacks are both degrading and insulting. |

But the difference is that straight people are not marching under a banner that says "Straight White Male Organization". Anyone can march but groups are not segregated or represented by sexual orientation one way or the other.I believe in absolute equality so if straight males are not parading under a sexual orientation classification then neither should gay males parade under their sexual orientation classification. |

Irish heritage is not exclusively heterosexual, and the AOH will not let ANY group march in their parade which identifies itself as gay or lesbian The "straight" people marching in the parade are not marching "identifying itself as heterosexual", why do gays feel they have to march in the parade "identifying as gay or lesbian"? The link I mprovided in the OP spells out the story quite clearly. Gays are NOT permitted to march as gays in the AOH parade. As long as you are not OUT and PROUD in their parade, you may march. Among these are the VFW, the NYPD Band, the FDNY, the PFLAG (Parents And Friends of Lesbians And Gays), 1199, and the TWU (!). In addition, major corporations such as Delta Airlines, AVIS, Coca-Cola, and Bank Of America send large contingents to march in this, the largest LGBT parade in the world. The Pride March has always been a political parade, held to raise public awareness of LGBT issues, celebrate our pride in our community, culture, and our notable public figures present (like me...LOL) and past, and commemorate the Stonewall Rebellion, which began the modern gay-rights movement in 1969. |
